Effects

You can modify any Sound in Sunday keys with Audio and Midi Effects. Each Sound can utilize one MIDI Effect and up to three Audio Effects.  These Effects can be used to create unique, rhythmic arpeggiators, wide chorus modulations, lush reverb tails, and more. With Effects you can dial-in just the right Sound for your Patches and Songs.

Effects can be Engaged or Bypassed dynamically as you play. The Engage/Bypass state can also be saved in a Patch Snapshot allowing for quick, easy transitions from one part of a song to another. For more information, visit Patch Snapshots.

Add an Effect

To add an Effect, tap in an empty Effect slot, then select the desired Effect type to add it to the Sound’s signal chain.

Engage/Bypass an Effect

Use the Engage/Bypass button to the left of the Effect name to toggle the engaged/bypassed state of the Effect.  When engaged, the Effect will modify the MIDI or Audio of the Sound; when bypassed MIDI and Audio will not be affected.

MIDI Effects

MIDI Effects process the MIDI note data that is received by a Sound and can be used to add an Octave Up and create interesting Sequences, Arpeggiators, or to trigger chords based on a single note press.

Arpeggiator

image.png

The Arpeggiator turns your inputted notes into rhythmic or melodic patterns based on the settings you choose. The Arpeggiator is flexible by offering up to 16 steps with independent control of each step’s velocity and engaged/bypassed state. Set the Arpeggiator’s Subdivision (influenced by Tempo) and Style to suit the needs of your Patch.

Easy Chord

image.png

Easy Chord is a MIDI Effect that allows you to program inputted notes that correspond with a set of output notes. With Easy Chord engaged, only the programmed input notes will be sent to the Sound module.

To start programming, tap the Input note box to start learning a chord. Designate an input note by playing a note on your physical keyboard or via the onscreen keyboard. Next, designate up to eight output notes by playing a note on your physical keyboard or via the onscreen keyboard.

When a note field is highlighted, any note received will be learned. If you need to exit the learning mode, tap the highlighted note field.  This will allow you to audition the Chords that have been programmed.

If you need to change a note, you can select an existing note, then play a new note to overwrite the previous one.  If you want to remove a note, long-press any note to reveal the menu to remove it.

Tap the “+ Add Chord” button to program additional chords (up to 99 total).  Tap the Trash icon to remove a chord’s programming.

Octave Up

image.png

The Octave Up MIDI Effect adds an octave above any note you play, with the velocity of that additional note controlled via the “Blend” parameter. This MIDI Effect is applied to all notes you play that are within the Layer Range for the Sound.

Sequencer

image.png

Use the Sequencer to program melodic and rhythmic note patterns then trigger them with single input note presses. Use the Subdivision (influenced by Tempo), Velocity, and Step controls to suit your Patch’s needs. When Sequencer is engaged, only programmed input notes will be sent to the Sound module.

The workflow for programming a Sequence combines the concepts found within the Arpeggiator and Easy Chord MIDI effects, so it will feel similar.

To start programming, tap the Input note box to start learning a sequence. Designate an input note by playing a note on your physical keyboard or via the onscreen keyboard. Designate output notes by playing notes on your physical keyboard or via the onscreen keyboard.

When a note field is highlighted, any note received will be learned. If you need to exit the learning mode, tap the highlighted note field. This will allow you to audition the Sequences that have been programmed.

If you need to change a note, you can select an existing note, then play a new note to overwrite the previous one.  If you want to remove a note, long-press any note to reveal the menu to remove it.

Tap the “+ Add Sequence” button to program additional sequences (up to 99 total).  Tap the Trash icon to remove a chord’s programming.

Audio Effects

Audio Effects process the audio generated by a Sound Module.  You can add up to three Audio Effects per Sound and the signal will pass through them in series from top to bottom. All Audio effects are located after the Compressor and Equalizer controls found within Sound Settings.

The Audio Effects you choose and their settings can drastically change the resulting Sound. Here's an overview of all the Audio Effects available within the Sunday Keys App.

Bitcrusher

Effect Presets

Applying the same Effect parameters over and over would get tiring.  If you find yourself setting up the same dotted 1/8th note delay or the same Easy Chord settings across multiple Sounds you can save time by storing your most-used Effect settings as Effect Presets.

With Effect Presets you can save the settings of an Effect’s parameters to be applied quickly.

Some Effects even have Factory Effect Presets built-in and available for you to utilize.

Recall an Effect Preset

To recall an Effect Preset, tap the Effect name to open the Effect parameter menu, then tap the Preset dropdown menu.  Tap an Effect Preset, then tap “Apply”. After you do, the Effect parameters will adjust to the saved values of the Effect Preset. If you are happy with the changes, tap “Confirm”.  If not, try another Effect Preset, or tap “Discard Changes” to return to the Effect’s previous state and close the menu.

Save an Effect Preset

If you have dialed-in the perfect Effect parameters, you can save those values by tapping the “Presets” dropdown in the Effect parameter menu, then tap “+ Save Preset as”.  Enter the Effect Preset name and tap “Save”.  The Effect Preset is now saved in the User Presets section of the Presets dropdown and available in any instance of that Effect type throughout the App.
