Sunday Keys for MainStage 2021: Using Live Sequences and Live Grooves

Live Sequences and Live Grooves are awesome new patches in Sunday Keys 2021 and newer versions!

Check out the video or the steps below it to learn more about how to use them:

Here’s how to use Live Sequences and Live Grooves in Sunday Keys.

Live Sequences

Live Sequences function in much the same way as other sounds with Easy Chord, which you can learn about here or on the Sunday Keys Resource Page.

You can add a Live Sequence just as you would any other sound when you’re building your own layered patches. If you don't know how to do that click here to learn how. You can view all Live Sequences patches within any of the four main sections in Sunday Keys by selecting the Live Sequence category in Patch Builder.

There’s also a good number of layered worship patches that make use of Live Sequences. You can navigate to the Layered Worship Patches area of Patch Builder, select “Sort by Lead Instrument” and then select “Live Sequences Driven” to view a list of all the pre-built layered patches that include Live Sequences.

Changing the key of a Live Sequence is the exact same as changing the key for any sound that includes Easy Chord. Just click and drag or two finger swipe up or down to select the desired key here.

Live Sequences only respond to notes in the lower note ranges. When you press a bass note it will trigger a melodic sequence or pattern designed for modern worship music. Keep in mind that layer ranges may vary from one sequence to the next so take some time to get familiar with the layer range of the Live Sequence you want to use. Note that the highest and lowest notes are shifted based on the currently selected key, even though the layer range floating over the onscreen keyboard does not change in appearance.

Live Sequences follow the current tempo of your concert or patch. Click here to learn how to set the tempo of a patch.

Live Grooves

You can add a Live Groove just as you would any other sound when you’re building your own layered patches. If you don't know how to do that click here. You can view all Live Grooves within any of the four main sections or the Extra section in Sunday Keys by selecting the Live Grooves category.

There’s also a good number of layered worship patches that make use of Live Grooves. You can navigate to the Layered Worship Patches area of Patch Builder, select “Sort by Lead Instrument” and then select “Live Grooves Driven” to view a list of all the pre-built layered patches that include Live Grooves.

Live Grooves are triggered by the first bass note you press within their layer range and will continue to play until all bass notes in the range until the sustain pedal is released. It’s important to note that playing more than one bass note in the layer range at a time tends to double up the pattern, causing unexpected results, which is why the layer range for Live Grooves is rather narrow by default. You can adjust the layer range of any Live Groove so it fits in just the right range for your needs by clicking the channel strip and adjusting the High and Low notes in the Layer Editor tab of the channel strip inspector here.

Live Grooves also feature a floating layer range of a couple of additional steps that you can adjust here if needed.

Live Grooves also follows the current tempo of your concert or patch. Click here to learn how to set the tempo of a patch.

And with that you should be ready to start playing with Live Sequences and Live Grooves for yourself. Have fun!
